Ahirwar’s courteous greeting with a ‘Ram-Ram’ salute using his opposite hand seemed to displease the two youths. In a violent response, Abhishek and Ramji allegedly attacked Ahirwar with sticks, resulting in severe injuries to both of his legs and leaving him unable to walk.

New Delhi: In a disturbing incident that has come to the fore, an elderly Dalit in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur man was thrashed with sticks by two upper-caste youths for offering a Ram Ram greeting with his opposite hand. The incident occurred in Udaipura village within the jurisdiction of the Khajuraho police station.

Ahirwar’s polite gesture of offering a ‘Ram-Ram’ salute with his opposite hand displeased the two youths. Responding violently, Abhishek and Ramji reportedly assaulted Ahirwar with sticks, causing severe injuries to both of his legs and rendering him unable to walk.

Distressed by the unprovoked attack, Nathuram Ahirwar filed a complaint at the Khajuraho police station two days after the incident. However, the police did not take immediate action, prompting Nathuram to escalate the matter. On December 14th, he, along with his family, travelked to the district headquarters to register a complaint with higher officials.
FIR registered, accused on the run
Taking cognizance of the severity of the case, senior officers intervened, directing the police station to register an FIR under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the accused youths. The FIR was filed under sections 323, 294, 506, SC-ST Act, and 34 of the IPC. The accused duo remain at large, evading the authorities. The police are engaged in a search operation to apprehend them.
Man attacked for refusing to chant Jai Shri Ram
Earlier this year, a 34-year-old man, was brutally attacked by four individuals for allegedly refusing to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ Returning home at 11:30 pm, Siddharth, the victim, encountered the assailants in Gokulnagar, who verbally abused and physically assaulted him when he declined the religious chant. Siddharth filed a complaint at the nearby police station, leading to the arrest of Suraj Pandey; the search for other suspects is ongoing. The Kurar police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
