Five extort transgenders; arrested
Pune: Five men were arrested by the Talegaon Dabhade police on Wednesday on the charge of extorting Rs1.1 lakh from three transgenders for allowing them to seek alms in Talegaon Dabhade area.
A 30-year-old transgender, who lodged a complaint with the police, said the suspects started the extortion from January this year. “The complainant approached us after the suspects increased the extortion amount,” an officer said. The suspects have been identified as Prakash Shende (27), Amit Pawar (28), Ajay Bhandalkar (23), Akash Kudalkar (20) and Nishant Gaikwad (28). TNN

Punjab: Police bust extortion gang following brief encoutner in AmritsarPunjab police has arrested several individuals involved in an extortion racket allegedly led by gangster Harry Chattha. The key associate, Navneet Singh alias Nav, was apprehended after a brief encounter near Batala. Three others were also arrested for their direct involvement, while three additional accused were brought in from different jails. Police recovered firearms, ammunition, and vehicles used in the crimes. The gang had recently opened fire at a travel agent’s shop and a local businessman’s house after failing to receive extortion payments. A case has been registered and the injured accused is receiving medical treatment.104971959
