Transgender India Launches A Much Needed Online Courses On Transition
Transgender India, an organisation dedicated to empowering the transgender community, recently launched a groundbreaking online platform for gender transition courses. This initiative is aimed at providing transgender individuals with vital resources to support their medical, legal, and social transitions. By offering these resources, Transgender India is making significant progress in promoting inclusiveness and addressing the discrimination faced by the LGBTQIA+ community, with a specific focus on transgender individuals.

Neysara, the founder of Transgender India, emphasizes the dual purpose of the platform: providing practical assistance and valuable knowledge to individuals seeking support during their transition. The platform offers a wide range of videos and courses available in English and Hindi languages, ensuring accessibility for all. Collaborating with experienced professionals in fields such as medicine, law, and employment, Transgender India aims to provide comprehensive support to the transgender community. The platform covers various aspects of transition, including psychiatry, hormone replacement therapy, surgery, legal affairs, and employment opportunities. These online resources are designed to empower and guide individuals throughout their journey.
Despite gender dysphoria being recognized as a non-pathological condition in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), many doctors in India still perceive it as a disease. However, she mentions that there are a small number of trans-friendly doctors in the country who are willing to provide support for individuals undergoing gender transition.
“Trans persons have very limited access digitally to information and resources on transitioning and on other medico social legal aspects of transitions. This resource by the NGO is a rare resource that we have in India which brings to light various practical issues guidance and much needed support to help transgender persons in their journey. We need more initiatives like these in a country with 500,000 Transgender persons as enumerated in the last census,” says Zainab Patel, a transgender activist and entrepreneur based in Mumbai.
Zainab was seconded by Rakhi a Kolkata-based transgender beautician, “Back in the day, there was no proper information regarding gender transformation. We were so unaware about the processes ourselves that we couldn’t spread awareness regarding them in our own families or seek support, let alone the society. This is a great initiative and I hope lots of people benefit from it”.
Such courses will play a critical role in empowering transgender individuals on their journey of self-discovery and transition by providing inclusive education, professional guidance, virtual support communities, and breaking down societal stigmas.
