Builder refuses to sell house to Dalit, booked
Rajkot: A real estate developer in Rajkot has been booked under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for refusing to sell a property to a Dalit. Builder Ravi Moliya was booked by Gandhigram police for allegedly committing discrimination based on a person’s caste.
The police complaint was filed by Bhavesh Vanvi, who works as a sales officer in a private bank. He came to know about an under-construction scheme, Shyama Twins in Ghanteshwar area on Jamnagar road, in May last year through WhatsApp. He called on the given phone number and went to see the site.
At the site, he met Moliya who introduced himself as the partner of the project. Moliya explained to Vanvi the price bifurcation but at the time of finalising the deal, he asked Vanvi his caste. Vanvi told him that he was a Dalit.
“Moliya told me that they do not sell properties to lower caste people like Vankars and Dalits, because if they sell flats to people of lower caste, they will face difficulties in selling other flats,” Vanvi alleged in his police complaint.
He had submitted his application at University police station, which forwarded his application to Gandhigram police station as the spot of alleged crime falls under the jurisdiction of Gandhigram police.
