Action to be taken against schools denying admission to Dalits: Min
Mysuru: A day after he blamed the previous Bommai government for delay in extending scholarship to Dalit students, social welfare minister HC Mahadevappa on Tuesday warned of initiating legal action against educational institutions which deny admission to poor students.
In a FB post, he said it is a crime to deny admission citing non-payment of fee.
In the previous government administration, many students faced obstacles to continue their education when they were facing problems paying fees. Education is a primary right. Education can’t be denied to any student citing non-payment of fees, he stated.
Directions have been issued to ensure release of scholarships on time. Officials have been asked to ensure that students will get their scholarships on time. If there is any delay or problems to get scholarships, students must bring that to my knowledge, he stated in the post.
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters, he said that errors in the textbook prepared in the earlier BJP regime will be corrected. “They portrayed historical persons as non-historical ones. There are many such blunders. We will remove contents which are not true. Only truth will be part of textbooks,” he said.
