Dalit samithi leaders: Make Mahadevappa minister
Mysuru: Dalitha Sangarsha Samithigala Haikya Horata Chalana Samithi, Mysuru district convener, Chunchanahalli Mallesh on Tuesday demanded Congress high command and chief minister Siddaramaiah to provide ministerial berth to former minister HC Mahadevappa who is a prominent Dalit leader
Speaking to reporters, he said that over 80 per cent of Dalit voters have overwhelmingly supported Congress to get back to power in the state. Mallesh criticised Congress high command for not making Mahadevappa a minister in the first phase of cabinet expansion.
He cautioned that Dalits voters will teach a lesson to Congress by defeating its party candidates in that upcoming Lok Sabha polls if the party does not provide a cabinet berth for Mahadevappa.
Meanwhile, Ahinda Okkuta Mysuru district committee member Sosale Mahesh too urged the Congress high command to provide cabinet berth to Mahadevappa. Speaking to reporters, he said that Mahadevappa who was elected for the sixth time has successfully handled portfolios like health and family welfare, rural development and panchayat raj in the previous Congress governments.
As PWD minister, he was instrumental in development of 41,993 kilometers of road across the state, besides constructing several bridges and other works. The Congress party must utilize the experience of Mahadevappa, Mahesh said.
