Transgender Police Recruitment: Now transgender will also be recruited in police, cabinet minister announced
Transgender Recruitment in Police: Now people from the transgender community will also be able to apply for the constable recruitment in the police department and a special standard will also be set for their examination in this recruitment. Announcing this on behalf of the cabinet minister of West Bengal, many important things have been said.
Kolkata: The West Bengal government on Wednesday announced that transgenders would be able to apply for constable posts in the state police department. West Bengal cabinet minister Shashi Panja made the announcement during an event to distribute identity cards to transgenders. The Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Minister said that a special parameter will be fixed for applicants from the transgender community for physical fitness and endurance, which will be slightly higher than that of women and slightly less than that of men.
The minister also said that considering that transgenders in general have been denied fruits for social equality, it is being considered to give some relaxation to the applicants from the community in terms of educational qualification. The minister also said that one per cent of the existing quota for women in the recruitment of constables would be reserved for transgender candidates.
According to Ranjita Sinha, a well-known transgender activist and former member of the West Bengal Transgender Development Board, “Though the decision is welcome, the reservation percentage is very low considering the rising unemployment among the people of the community.” “I welcome this step and expect more to come in the days to come,” she added. But I cannot say that I am very happy.
It is worth noting that from time to time, demands have been raised regarding the promotion of transgender in employment in many states and in the past this issue was also discussed in Maharashtra and now this news regarding the recruitment of transgender community in West Bengal Police has come to the fore.
