Sushant Divgikr at Harvard University speaks on behalf of the transgender community; says “They are more than begging and sex workers..”
Bigg Boss 8 fame Sushant Divgikr was seen attending a conference at Harvard University in the USA on behalf of the Transgender community from India. Sushant spoke about not getting an ample amount of respect from the TV and Film industry and also spoke about being an artist.
Bigg Boss fame Sushant Divgikr, who is also known as Rani Ko-HE-Nur, recently shared a reel on her Instagram profile, where he was seen visiting Harvard University and representing her community. Sushant proudly spoke in the video about representing the transgender community and also as an artist who is from India.
Sushant in the video talks about representing India among the two other transgender people and how proud she felt for representing his country as a transgender artist. Sushant says in the video that “They are more than begging and sex workers”.
Sushant shared an incident from her talks at events and said that “people are confused when I speak and ask who’s that and who is speaking for her and then I eventually go on singing in my Maharashtrian language which is my mother tongue”. We also see Sushant singing the famous Marathi song ‘Apsara Aali’ in front of so many students in the University.
Sushant also wrote a very long caption, “NamaSLAY! I really don’t understand why not enough media would just cover transgender / queer people and artistes scaling new heights every day ! I’m just going to keep sharing as many snippets of the India Conference at Harvard University that I was recently at and the fact that three Indian Transgender people were part of this amazing panel and that we represented our country , India so beautifully internationally !”.
Sushant further talks about breaking stereotypes as three well-educated transgender sit on the panel of Harvard University and are representing India together. The Drag Queen writes, “This is also such a strong message that you see A Doctor (@doctorsaheba ) , an author , theatre artist and activist (@revathi.amb ) and a drag artiste , performing artiste and activist , all of whom happen to be transgender AND INDIAN on this panel ! This breaks all the stereotypes that trans people are only about begging and sex work , a stereotype that our films and tv industries can take complete credit for as they portrayed us terribly over the years !
But now , times are changing ! We have better content , better opportunities and a more empathetic generation ! We need to change the narrative and I hope we are all together in creating this change ! A big shoutout to @harvardindiacon @ananyac05 and team for this wonderful initiative and thank you for inviting us. Here’s to many more trans stories being told and celebrated .”
Sushant also talks about art and how it does not see any gender or caste but it only sees your talent and that’s what matters the most for an artist. Many of his fans and friends commented on the post.
Even Sushant commented with a thank you message for all the love he received. He added, “Thank you so much everyone for all the love and support
Merenla Imsong a friend of Sushant commented “Sushant, you’re so articulate and whatever you say comes from a place of love. Cheers to your grit, your wisdom and your generosity ”. Even Nisha Rawal wrote, “ So proud of u”.
Sushant had spoken with BT recently and spoke about how the country has been changing for her community. Sushant said “We have a lot more opportunities today. We have broken so many ceilings. I, for instance, believe I don’t need a place at your table and I have laid my own table and I will have all these performers at that table. I don’t want to be eating what you have been eating for years, I am not just a whole new dish, I am the entire buffet. Every performer who is queer or trans in this country is being represented nationally and internationally by many people and not just me. All of the exposure today is a tribute to the hard work of the people who have worked for many years and have had to be underground.”
