The figures of untouchability came to the fore across the country.
New Delhi: You will be stunned to see the statistics of the practice of untouchability which was legally declared criminal decades ago. According to a recent survey conducted by the Social Attitude Research of India, untouchability is practiced up to 50% in urban Rajasthan, 48% in urban Uttar Pradesh and 39% in Delhi. Apart from this, this evil practice continues even today in two-thirds of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

This survey was done by University of Taxes and Jawaharlal Nehru University. During this, about 8,065 people from Delhi, Mumbai, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh were interviewed through phone, in which questions were asked on untouchability, Dalit oppression, and inter-caste marriages. After which its report was published in Economic and Political Weekly.
Surveyor Amit Thorat says that this trend is a big challenge for the social and economic development of the country and due to this the mentality of the society seems to be getting worse.
However, the figures that have come out from this survey are shameful. Even today such evils are bound to our society. And we are dreaming of becoming a developed country. It is not understood that when the constitution criminalises the evil practice like untouchability, then why no action is taken at the ground level against these people who promote these evils.
