14-year-old Dalit girl’s body found in a pond in Pilibhit
Pilibhit: 14-year-old Dalit girl’s body was found in a pond near Gaybojh village, under Sungarhi police station in Pilibhit district, on Monday.
The victim had been missing since Oct 11 under mysterious circumstances. Following a complaint by her father, Ram Singh, police registered an FIR for kidnapping on Oct 12.
Police said the body has been sent for an autopsy. Electronic surveillance of the girl’s mobile phone revealed contact with two local boys before her death.
Pilibhit City Circle CO, Deepak Chaturvedi, said that further legal action would be based on surveillance and autopsy reports. The autopsy showed no signs of rape or external injuries, and the viscera have been preserved for forensic testing.
The autopsy did not confirm drowning as the cause of death, despite the body floating on the pond. Experts said that a body typically takes three to four days to decompose and float, depending on water temperature and salinity.
