14 people booked for assault on Dalit family in rural Dharwad
Dharwad: Garag police in Dharwad district have registered an FIR against 14 members on Friday for assault. The incident has been reported from Madanabhavi village of Dharwad taluk.
A case has been registered against former taluk panchayat president and Congress leader Ravigouda Patil, Pillu Mohangouda Patil and 12 others. They allegedly assaulted Kartik Pattihal, his father Narayan and mother Mudukavva with iron rods and caused grievous injuries. The Patils were allegedly irked after Kartik, who hails from a Dalit community, he rode his motorcycle in front of their house not heeding to their objection.
In her complaint, Mudukavva said that while her son was returning from a fair on January 25, a group waylaid and allegedly assaulted him. Later the group allegedly entered Kartik’s house and assaulted his father Narayan and mother Mudukavva.
It is alleged that there was an attempt to kidnap Kartik when the fair was going on and sensing trouble, his parents came to rescue him. They were assaulted by Patil’s supporters. The attackers allegedly snatched away Mudukavva’s gold chain.
The injured are treated in Dharwad, while the others in the family have reportedly taken shelter at a relative’s house. Investigation is on.
