Lover, 4 friends nabbed for raping Dalit woman in Anekal

BENGALURU: Five persons were arrested on Wednesday in connection with blackmail and rape of a 22-year-old Dalit woman from Gowrenahalli village in Anekal taluk, about 36km from Bengaluru.

The arrested are Ghouse, the woman’s boyfriend and his friends Murugesh, Ramesh, Vikas and Yathiraj, all aged between 20 and 25, and residents of the same village. The rape is suspected to have happened at a hillock on April 29 but the woman, scared of her tormentors, had remained quiet. Her mother approached Anekal police on October 10 after medical tests proved that she was pregnant.

The woman alleged that she was being blackmailed with a video of her with her boyfriend. “She has told her mother that the gang videographed her when she was in a compromising position with Ghouse and later threatened her that they would upload it on social media if she did not cooperate. They took her to a hillock and sexually abused her. She later came to know about the involvement of Ghouse in the case,” police said.
Police have registered a case of gangrape and criminal intimidation. The accused have also been booked under some sections of the SC/ST Atrocities Act.
Though the gang is said to have blackmailed her saying that they had a video, we have not found anything so far. They have denied the existence of such a video,” an officer said.
