Swapnil was murdered in Navi Mumbai in July allegedly by family members of a 15-year-old girl with whom he was in a relationship.

“I was near my home in Nerul on Wednesday afternoon along with a friend. One of the accused, who lives in my neighbourhood, asked me what I was saying about him. I told him I wasn’t speaking about him,” said Nitin. A few hours later at around 9 pm, other men from the area came to him bring him to the accused who had spoken to him earlier. “I went to see what the issue was and he referred to the afternoon incident and threatened to assault me. He also referred to Swapnil’s death saying that he knew what had happened to him and that he will beat me up as well,” said Nitin. He added that his assailant also used casteist abuses while assaulting him.
